BTS’s popularity in the United States has been broken down into regions in a fascinating map created by the New York Times!
The newspaper recently shared fan maps for the top 50 artists that “Americans love the most.” The list included the 50 artists on the Billboard Top 100 who were the most watched on YouTube in the United States between January 2016 and April 2017, with BTS coming in at No. 44.
YouTube’s geocoded streaming data was used to show the relative popularity of artists in regions of the United States. The New York Times clarified, “If one part of a map is lighter, it doesn’t mean people there weren’t watching the artist’s videos; it just means fans were more likely to listen to a variety of other artists.”
BTS’s fan map displays strong fan bases in areas including Hawaii and California, as well as scattered pockets of high popularity in some surprising regions, including large areas in northern Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, BTS wrapped up their “WINGS” world tour last month and is currently preparing for a comeback in September.
