BTS’s “Love Yourself: Her” is now the highest ranking K-pop album ever on the Billboard 200 chart!
On September 25 KST, the Billboard 200 chart ranking was announced for the week ending in October 7. This chart shows the most popular albums of the week in the United States, and the ranking is based on what Billboard describes as “multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).”
BTS’s new mini album “Love Yourself: Her” is at No. 7 on the newly released chart, with 31,000 units sold. Billboard has described the unit breakdown as composed of “18,000 in traditional album sales, just less than 4,000 in TEA and a little under 10,000 in SEA.”
According to Billboard, this is K-pop’s biggest sales week ever and the highest Billboard 200 chart ranking for a K-pop act.
BTS’s previous highest chart result on the Billboard 200 was No. 26 with their full album “WINGS” last October, and “WINGS” and “Love Yourself: Her” are the only K-pop albums to have made it into the chart’s top 40.
BTS is also the K-pop artist with the most albums that have made it on to the Billboard 200, as “Love Yourself: Her” is their fifth release to enter the chart.
This is only the latest of BTS’s impressive achievements with their new mini album. The group has so far set new records for stock pre-orders and first day album sales in Korea, topped the most international iTunes Top Albums charts ever by a Korean artist, and achieved great results on European charts. They also became the first Korean artist to enter Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart, while the music video for “DNA” continues to break YouTube view records for K-pop groups.
Many fans are also waiting to find out how well BTS’s new single “DNA” has done on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, which has not yet been released.
Congratulations to BTS!
